Indonesia is a country with the 4th largest population in the world. It is also a country with a huge potential amount of natural resources. According to the National Statistic Agency, the amount of Indonesian Population reached 237 million people in 2010. With this enormous amount, Indonesia is the country with the biggest energy consumption in Southeast Asia.
The ASEAN Center for Energy reported the reserves of fossil energy as currently become the main source of energy has been decreased. Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activity Republic of Indonesia reported in 2015 oil production in Indonesia are around 800 thousand barrels per day, while the consumption has reached 1.5 million barrels per day. There are 700 barrels gap between production and consumption per day and predicted to be much bigger to 2.5 million barrels gap in 2025. With this vast gap, the needs of exploring more oil and renewable energy have become very important. Indonesia is located in the zone called Ring of Fire, a zone with a continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts surrounding the Pacific Ocean. This situation has made Indonesia become the country with a huge potential of geothermal energy. It contains 30% of world geothermal resources and currently, only 5% of this has been utilized.
